2FA and 3rd Party Apps

I'm at the end of my rope with Garmin. I like 2FA, but hate that it doesn't integrate with third party apps. If I set it up to use Garmin Drive I no longer have the ability to sync with Strava, Run Gap, and other apps. I have seen several threads where Garmin claims this is has been resolved...but I cannot for the life of me figure out how?

Either you support 3rd party integration or not. Just pick one. If you choose not to integrate, that will be fine and we will at least know that is your position. But this attempt at 2FA ain't it.

  • It works with Strava. Strava got an official integration with Garmin Connect. If it doesn't work then disconnect in both ends and then add it again. Use the Strava credentials when you login to to Strava and not Facebook or any other login method.

Run Gap doesn't have an official integration AFAIK. It uses the Connect login credentials to fetch data, right? That will not work with 2FA.

  • Yes. We need to have the ability for us to select "trust this app" and bypass 2FA if we want.

  • The problem is that Run Gap acts as a user and not an integration so there is no app to allow.

Run Gap needs to develop an integration and then it will work. The problem here is that Run Gap adds data to Garmin and for that they need to use an API that very few services are allowed to use. So, it is unlikely that Run Gap will do that.

  • the issue with Strava is if you want to get things to Apple Health, Connect won't write all the fields directly and Strava doesn't pick them all up either. RunGap was really good at grabbing all that extra data for use in other apps. Bummed I didn't learn this 2FA issue sooner.
