Removing of an activity in Garmin Connect doesn't remove it from devices

I've got Forerunner 965 and Edge 530. I ride in Zwift regularly and do double recording (i.e. Zwift records an activity + I record it on my watch/bike computer with a separate power meter connected as well). As a result, I have 2 duplicating activities showing in my Garmin Connect - which is obviously expected. After reviewing the stats on both activities I remove one of the activities in GC mobile app, normally the one recorded on the watch/bike comp. After that, I see only one activity in the app and in GC Web - as expected.

Now, the problem is that the deleted activities are not deleted from my watch/bike comp. When I connect the watch or bike comp to my laptop to upgrade maps, etc, all the activities that I deleted from GC Web/mobile app appear in GC again. It creates a massive headache of going through GC and removing duplicates again.

Can this be fixed, please? IMO, GC should be the golden source - if you change something there, it should be reflected on all devices.

  • Here is a recent example to demonstrate the sync issues:

    1. Tuesday - activity was recorded by Zwift and FR 965, then the recording made by FR 965 was removed via GC mobile app.

    Result:

    - GC shows only Zwift recording (correct),

    - FR965 shows only FR965's recording (wrong),

    - Edge 530 shows only Zwift recording (correct)

    2. Wednesday - activity was recorded by Zwift and Edge 530, then the recording made by Edge 530 was removed via GC mobile app.

    Result:

    - GC shows only Zwift recording (correct),

    - FR965 shows only Zwift recording (correct)

    - Edge 530 shows only Edge 530's activity (wrong)

If I connect the devices to my laptop and do a sync via Garmin Express, I'll get both deleted Tue and Wed activities back to GC.

  • Deleting activities in Garmin Connect will not delete anything on the devices. That is how it works. It is the same with workouts and courses. Nothing you do in Garmin Connect is reflected on the devices. It is also the same the other way around.

The main issue here is that it syncs the activities again. They have already been synced so they should not sync again.

  • I did a short test with my Edge 1030.

Logged a 5 second dummy ride. Synced to Garmin Connect. Deleted the ride. Synced with Garmin Express.

You are right. It synced the ride again. I also use Strava, but it noticed that it already had synced that activitity.

Each activity should only be synced once.
