Forerunner 965 - Steps are not shown in the running app

Hi Garmin-Community,

I have the Garmin Forerunner 965. I configured the data fields in the running app and in this context I selected also the field "Steps".

During my running trainings I always see the number "0" in the steps data field. After the end of a running training I see that the number of steps increased in the overall screen, but in the running app I see alsways the figure "0".

Does anybody has the same issue?

Thanks for your feedback.

  • The Steps data field is supposed to show the total daily steps. Not sure why it shows zero in your case, but if you want to see the number of steps done during the activity, and to have the final count then saved along with other stats in the activity file, rather have a look at Connect IQ apps. There are several very simple and free apps offering just that:

Connect IQ Store | Free Watch Faces and Apps | Garmin

  • I can only speak for myself (and my own watch), but my 945 LTE's Steps data field shows the number of steps during the activity, not the daily steps, and it doesn't stay stuck at 0. (At least for running.) Sounds like a bug to me.

Also, at least on my 945 LTE, the number of steps for running and walking activities seems to be saved in the FIT file (*), even if it's not exposed in Garmin Connect, at least based on the fact that certain third party services can display it:

    - If I sync with Strava, I can see the number of steps for walking activities

    - If I use www.runalyze.com (which syncs with Garmin Connect), I can see the number of steps for both running and walking activities

(* The alternative explanation is that they calculate / estimate steps from cadence and time. Looking at raw data from a recent run, maybe that's more likely.)
