If I merge a Garmin and Zwift fit file, will Firstbeat have a double entry for the metrics?

The first entry coming from the original Garmin file that is auto uploaded after the activity. And the second entry being the new merged Garmin/Zwift file?

I'm assuming the activity will be counted twice by garmin?

Nice. For a few 3rd party services it is done in Garmin Connect.

Just check if you see any changes to the values when you upload your merged activity. Then you will know.

Metrics are calculated by the device so importing activities will not affect the calculated metrics.

Training Effect is calculated on Garmin Connect though, not device

Why do you think so?

After every activity you will see the training effect on the device before the sync. Garmin Connect is not a part of that calculation.
