Editing a Course Point with Garmin Connect Web in Safari on an iPad?

I have slowly evolved a workflow to create and edit courses and edit/save activities when away from home on trips. If I have the time I like to create new courses to upload to my GPS and download completed activities, filing them away to display on a larger map screen, etc. Thankfully it has all got a lot easier over the years, some of the tools are great, others less so!

I only use an iPad and iPhone on trips, no laptop, this restricts what I can do a little bit compared to better desktop tools, but not all that much these days.

My main workflow is to create a route(course) in Stava, (using Safari). Strava is great with heatmaps to check on where people actually go, etc. These routes are easy to move across to my Fenix 7X, Edge 830 or Montana 800 GPS.

I would like to make more use of course points. When walking or Mountaineering it’s handy to have a countdown in Km to some important waypoints to help with navigation.

I can add these in Garmin Connect Web without too much of an issue.

But what I can’t do is edit the things after creation! If I right click (using the iPad keyboard trackpad) I briefly see an edit box appear but it’s immediately overlaid with another menu option that iOS wants to show me, so I can’t reach the Garmin edit dialogue. I guess the delete option would be there as well. I can edit the course points with the Garmin Connect iOS app, but I’d rather not switch from one to the other if I can help it.

Any ideas?

As an aside … I’ve just discovered a super web based GPS editing tool: https://gpx.studio/ It can display Strava Heatmaps and seems to be able to add Garmin style Course Points to new tracks. I can then import these into Garmin Connect Web to tweak a few settings and add proper logos to the Course Points. A great little tool, perfect for my needs as it works on the iPad really well, as well as the desktop at home of course.

As this another menu is from the system, then try to check operating system's settings.

Possibly you can close a system's menu by ESC key, if the iPad lacks this key, then maybe use: Command + dot keys.

  • Thanks for that hint. Control + dot didn’t seem to do anything Scream

Just had another try and … a long press on the iPad screen instead of using the trackpad works Thumbsup tone1

A long press brings up the same iOS dialogue, but when it’s cleared by tapping on the screen again the Garmin Course Points menu is still there: Edit and Delete, so problem solved Sunglasses

  • You're right, there are two similar keys, the shortcut is with the Command key, corrected previous post.

There are many shortcuts and options, as you found other way to close the menu.
