10K coach: run-walk-run on all long runs?

In week 5 of my 10K coaching program (with Jeff) I have to do a Long Easy Run (see screenshot attached).

I’ve read about his Run-Walk-Run method, but I am not sure whether I have to apply it to this run already? Or will I get assigned runs in the future that have a specific Run-Walk-Run interval set already?

Thanks in advance!

  • When I did the Jeff Galloway's Garmin coach program a couple of years ago, there was no pre-set run-walk-run intervals in the program (and based on comments I've seen those have not been added). So you should do long runs in the program using run-walk-run.

But I think the omission of predetermined run-walk-run splits is intentional. Jeff's own info says that people should choose a run/walk-ratio and speed that feel good for them, and should be free to change that even in the middle of a run based on how they feel. So it's actually a good idea to learn to listen to yourself and get a roughly suitable run/walk split. (But I agree that it would be nice to get some guidance from the watch in the beginning.)

The instructions you'll get later in the program will give you a chart to give hints for run/walk splits, but here's one from the net: https://www.runtothefinish.com/galloway-method-run-walk-marathon/

  • If you are supposed to use the RWR method it is described in the workout.
