Log nap times or start a nap manually

NAPS : i is that so complicated to set the possibility to lo log nap times or better to start a nap measure manually on my Fenix 6 saphire ????

  • Please make it possible to adjust the nap time.

Currently it is possible to adjust the sleep time but not the nap time.
  • I want to bump this. Today I forgot to switch off the nap time. It seems like an easy thing to add ...
  • I would suggest there should come a way to manually add nap/resting time. It is good that it is possible to manually set fall asleep time and wake up time, but in my line of work I rarely sleep only one time during the day. Would this be possible somehow? Is it also possible to maybe show sleeping data during the nap time?

I use the Fenix 3 with Garmin Connect.

    +1
I had 2 sleeps yesterday. 1 x 5 hours (0100-0600), then I had 1 x 5 hours (0700-1200) (or thereabouts) and it only registered the 1 set of data from the first 'sleep'.

    I use a Garmin VivoFit2 & iOS app.
  • Hi, Yesterday I passed out for 3 hours, and it was the first time I had taken a nap or even manually entered any sleep with Garmin connect. I cant seem to find a way to manually add a nap.

My Question is, how do you add a nap to Garmin connect manually?

    Thanks!
  • You cannot. The only way to add a nap is to put your device in manual sleep mode when you want to take a nap and then take it out when you're done. Not every device supports manual sleep mode. For example the Vivosmart HR doesn't although the vivosmart does.

Has anyone found a workaround for the napping problem with the Garmin Connect sleep tracking? I see that it does support naps, but there is no way to add one.

Many Garmin devices like the Vivosmart HR/HR+ have no manual sleep mode and they simply don't record sleep except a single nighttime session. Even for devices with a manual sleep mode, what if you forget to enable it until later? It ruins your sleep stats.

Many people (including almost all parents?) at some point need to nap or have their nighttime sleep broken into pieces. Not being able to represent multiple sessions in sleep tracking is a gaping hole in functionality.

Has anyone found a workaround or heard of progress toward this? Am I missing how this doesn't basically ruin sleep tracking?

I just "Shared an idea" here: http://www8.garmin.com/contactUs/ideas/ and would encourage others who are interested to do the same.
  • Tracking naps is a function of what device you have. Most don't do it. Last I checked, you could only do it on a vivoactive and the fenix3 types.

Yes, but it needn't be! The sleep detection is all off-device based on activity and HR data. If you could simply add a nap in Garmin Connect (and/or allow it to auto-detect sleep throughout the day), all the data for analyzing that session would be present.

Even if you couldn't use the device's data to analyze the sleep, at least you could manually keep your Garmin Connect sleep stats more or less accurate.

That is not an argument for extending or augmenting features at no extra charge. Sorry, but it's time for you to recalibrate your expectations as a consumer/customer. There is no promise and no obligation on the manufacturers' part to allow (or help) you fully exploit the capabilities of device hardware you purchased, or provide features you're sure could be supported if they were of a mind to do so. Manufacturers are free to market and sell device models as (limited) packages of features and functionality, without providing just the perfect thing for an individual ticking all his/her boxes, instead of leaving him/her to compromise on retail price, device form factor (and/or weight), and features provided.

The sleep detection is all off-device based on activity and HR data.
Wrong. HR data does not come into it.

Even if you couldn't use the device's data to analyze the sleep, at least you could manually keep your Garmin Connect sleep stats more or less accurate.
And I'm sure Garmin would be happy for you to purchase a wearable device in its product range that can support tracking of naps in your Garmin Connect account.
