Why is there still no Google Fit integration?

Garmin users have requested Google Fit integration for at least seven years, and more than 15,000 have voted for it here (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfY7O1kHfkWrHQ2YGiG7d9u4QWJ4HeKz7zJmGBpQgM218-VPw/viewanalytics). How can Garmin sell pretty expansive fitness equipment and so blatantly ignore what their customers want? This is so frustrating, my next fitness watch will definitely not be a Garmin!

  • You could also ask why Google Fit does not have Garmin integration Wink They are competitors, each having their own system and may prefer focusing on improving their own interface than wasting the rare resources on a platform of a competitor.

I rather suggest launching a project on a crowdfunding platform, and get it written by a 3rd party developer. If each of the 15.000 persons is ready to invest a small amount, it will be no problem to find a developer who will code it for them.

  • So, then why does Garmin integrate nicely with Apple Health? ;-) If only Garmin would actually improve its platform, but there still is no option (or even ambition) to replicate the functionality of Google Fit. I still cannot combine my meditation from Calm with any data from Garmin. Google Fit could do that.

There are third-party apps trying to bridge the gap between Garmin and basically all other apps, but using a third-party app comes with its own problems and costs. And its pretty obvious that Garmin users want this compatibility....

  • So, then why does Garmin integrate nicely with Apple Health?

It does not. Although there was an attempt to integrate it, if you check the iOS forum, you'd see it is very far from working "nicely". And that may be also one of the reasons Garmin does not want to make the same mistake again with Google Fit, because the maintenance and the support of the permanently changing interface costs them millions.

  • Well, I have a work iphone and personal android phone and the integration with Apple Health is pretty decent, while the integration with any other health app on Android is non-existent. Why not at least integrate it into Health Connect? Health Connect is merely a bridge between all kinds of health data platforms. If Garmin really thinks that coding a bridge to every single third-party smart scale, meditation app, smart pillows and what have you provider is less ressource-intense than coding a single bridge to a something like Health Connect, they are in for a bad surprise. Unless they believe that Garmin customers buy nothing but Garmin products and do not use any app except for Garmin apps.....

  • Try suggesting it to them: Share Ideas | Garmin

Or buy some Garmin shares, and have it voted at the next shareholders assembly Slight smile

  • Thanks, I just shared that idea with them. I don't think I'm wiling to invest the amount of money I'd need for Garmin to actually hear my voice as a shareholder, I'd rather just buy my next fitness watch from fitbit or some other company. That's voting with your feet ;-)

Yes, that's how it works - choose what fits you best, instead of expecting that each manufacturer is obliged to fulfill every wish of every customer. They have their right to offer what they deem profitable, and you have the right to choose a better offer. Good luck with Fitbit (or whatever else)!

  • Well, there are people and companies who use feedback and customer input to improve their business, and there are companies who ignore their customers. I just wish that Germain would fall into the former category, not least because the latter category usually goes bankrupt sooner or later, unless they can afford to ignore their customers because they hold a monopoly (which clearly is not the case for Garmin).
  • more than 15,000 have voted for it here

How do I vote? Doesn't seem possible from your link.

Never mind, found it here - docs.google.com/.../viewform

And on the Garmin forums here: forums.garmin.com/.../garmin-connect-sync-to-google-fit-and-samsung-health

  • fitbit doesn't integrate either....
