"Turn off" estimated distance?

Any chance we can "turn off" estimated distance for timed workouts? I'm recovering from a bad injury and surgery and can't come close to the distances estimated by Garmin right now. It's demotivating on one side and knowing what the estimates are makes me want to push harder than I'm capable of on the other. Not having a clear, easy way to disable that useless feature is bad design.

  • Which type of activity and where exactly is that field? And which watch model do you use? I do not see any "estimated distance" anywhere in my activities, just the measured distance.

  • It's on the Garmin Connect website. Whenever you either create a new timed workout, or update an existing one, the workout now displays an estimated distance for each segment and the overall workout. It appears to be pushing to most devices now. Mine is a Garmin 245.

  • OK, I see - there is a simple solution for that - add a Pace Intensity Target, and the estimation will adjust accordingly. So for example if you can only run with the pace of 10 min/km, set the target to 10 min/km, or set an range within your capacity (i.e. 8-12 min/km):

  • I'll give that a shot, but I still don't want it there at all. I'm doing timed runs, with no distance expectations, for a reason right now. With my back and knee issues, I just need time on feet while I drop the weight I gained from nearly a year of immobility and have absolutely no use for any kind of distance until after the run. I'm also all over the place in the distance covered on these workouts, but none of them are close to the estimates.

Ultimately it's just a bad design decision on Garmin's part to put that there without a way for users to toggle it off if it's not something we want to see in a specific workout. Whoever led that project didn't take user interest or desire into account at all.
