Help fixing corrupt FIT file please

Hi. My latest run isn't showing up in Garmin Connect and when I tried to upload it manually it says 'we don't support the file type'.

I've been trying to use online FIT file fixers but I'm not managing it. Can you help me with the repair please?

I've attached the zipped file. Thanks

  • This will work - [solved]

Fixed using Fit File Repair Tool

Some suggestions to help minimize the occurrence of corrupt fit files on a Forerunner 35

    • Avoid pressing stop or pause during an activity
    • Sync your watch, backup the \GARMIN\ACTIVITY folder, then do a full master reset of your Forerunner 35 using these directions - Restoring All Default Settings
    • Perform a weekly cleanup of the \GARMIN\ACTIVITY folder using these directions - Removing Recorded Activities to Free Up Space. The F35 seems to have problems with longer activities, so this step is important before a longer event
    • Regularly check for firmware updates using Garmin Express

Let us know when you encounter corrupted files again

  • Thank you so much!! Will take those recommended steps with my trusty F35.

  • Hello, can anyone helpme repair a corrupt FIt file? Thanks, Mark

  • Yes. If you don't know how to post it here, let us know.

    • Zip the file, then in a reply post Insert >> Image/video/file >> click Upload >> browse for file >> OK.
    • Or upload the fit file to a reputable file sharing service, such as OneDriveGoogle DriveDropbox, make the file public, then paste a link to the file in your post.
  • Hi, you seem to be The person to ask. Strava couldn't help with this file, and I have a mac so can't install the repair tool. It says it's malformed. Not sure what happened, I know I was offline when it tried to sync and I immediately added media to it, in the hope that all would be synched when I came online again. Alas, no such luck. The main thing I need to have is the start and end location (and preferably highest point location), but simply a working file would be great, as nothing is showing in FitFileExplorer. Thank you!

  • Strange file name. Also, did you compress this file into a zip file or just add ".zip" in order to post it here?

Nearly all of it corrupt per the Fit File Repair Tool:

126707 bytes of the file are corrupted and could not be repaired

You may have a slim chance using a file recovery tool, such as recuva to search your device for deleted, hidden, or corrupted files in the file system.. As you use your watch, any chance of recovery is greatly reduced.

  • Ouch. Thanks; no, just compressed it on a mac, then it creates a zip file that is the original file name + zip; it's the fit file that Strava generated on my phone.
Gutted, I recorded 1 thing that I needed to know where I had camped in the desert. Too bad, not sure what happened. I mean the file recorded, finished and saved perfectly, it's only the synching with Strava that went wrong, and then somehow this made the original file corrupted. Strava helpdesk were useless. Thank you though!

  • it's the fit file that Strava generated on my phone.

Do you have the original fit file from your Garmin device? Is there a Garmin device used at all?

  • No, not this one, as I only had my phone there. Do you know where I can find that file on a phone? Because this one has as a last modified date/time stamp the time when my phone reconnected to 4g, not when the activity recording was finished. I know I should have used my watch, I didn't have it with me for fear of losing it on holiday.

  • My "expertise" is with activities recorded on a Garmin device, so would have to rely on the Garmin community for any further assistance.Pensive Maybe try the Strava forum - Strava Community Hub
