Manually Adjust Distance of Run and Transfer to Watch

Hello all.  I just completed my second half marathon and set a new personal best.  However, the watch only recorded it as 20.7KM.  Not a problem as I was able to adjust the distance in the Garmin connect app.  But, it did not recognize it as a half marathon after the adjustment and therefor didn't give me a new record, despite beating my previous time by 30 min.  Is there something I need to do to trigger the app to recognize the new PR and half marathon?

Update.  Even though I was able to edit distance to 21K, if I then select "trim" activity it still shows the original 20.7K on the editable trim screen and watch.  On the trim screen it will only allow me to reduce distance, not increase.

  • The trim screen will only show the logged data. Your added distance can't be shown since that data does not exist.

To set a new personal record you do that manually. View the activity in Garmin Connect Web and click the cog wheel and select Set as PR.

  • Thanks for the tip, will try it out.  Too bad Garmin can't offer a better solution, being my second time running a half marathon, am feeling a little ripped off.  Is there no way to edit logged data?  What if I downloaded the activity, deleted from connect and watch, edited download file and re-upload to connect?  Could that then be synced back to the watch (Venu 2 plus).

  • What is it you really want to do? Do you want to automatically set the PR? There is no reason to do all that work when you just can set it manually. It will work the same way as if it was automatic.

Why do you need to acitivity on the watch? The watches are not intended for long time storage. The activities will automatically be deleted when the memory starts to get full.

You can edit the logged data, but the logged distance is only 20.7 km so that is what you can work with.

You can add fake data or maybe stretch out the logged data, but it requires that you do some advanced editing of the FIT file.

  • I tried to set as PR, but it's greyed out.  Possibly due to editing distance on the activity screen?

It's not really a big deal in the big picture.  Am new to running, after a life time of abusing my body, so this was big personal achievement.  Even if I could set as PR, it wouldn't show up in the half marathon category, just distance I believe.

Wont be my last and will do better next time, but who knows if it'll record the correct distance even then.

  • Setting PR is not available for all activity types. You need to change the type to Running, set the PR and then change back to the original type. The PR will be the category you set it to. If you select half marathon it will be half marathon.

  • Thank you sir! BlushThis did exactly what I wanted it to do.  When setting the PR it allowed me to chose anything from 1k to full marathon.  Now I'm a happy runner!
