Export all-day RAW heart rate data

Hi everyone, I'm Maria, I'm new here, just got a Garmin Instinct 2S! :)

I have a question. I'd like to find a way to access or export my heart rate data for the whole day (not activities/workouts) as recorded by the device - i.e. the 1-s data originally recorded by the watch, without any averaging/processing. NOT the 2 minute averages you can export from Garmin Connect Web or have the Garmin Connect app sync to Apple Health for instance.

Is it possible? Does anybody know how to do that?

I've skimmed through the forum (this, and thisisant forum too), but didn't seem to find an answer - sorry if I missed it! :)

Thanks!

Daily HR is not being recorded each second, rather each 2 minutes as you already noticed too. The 1s sampling rate is used only during activities. So if you need the detailed data, you have to start an activity for the entire time you need to review, and the HR will be then available in the activity data, and can be exported in several file formats from Garmin Connect Web.

I recommend using an indoor activity for this purpose. An outdoor activity using GPS would deplete the battery rapidly.

Hi, and thanks for the reply.

Actually, at least newer watches record every second (as you can read here https://www.garmin.com/en-US/blog/health/garmin-smartwatches-measure-heart-rate-every-second/, or for example on DC Rainmaker's reviews, or just by checking that the sensor is always on, even when not recording an activity).

However, Garmin Connect shows 2-min averages (the watch widget, funnily, shows 15-second averages... https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=dLag82HPPk0l4T2tRELSgA ).

There just doesn't seem to be a way - or at least I can't find it - to get the raw, 1-second readings...

  • The watches do measure the HR continuously and process the HR data in real time, but to not record it for later use, afaik. But if you have one of this new generation models supporting the shorter sampling rate and indeed recording it, the data would be in the FIT files, that you can export from the Daily Summary page of Garmin Connect Web.

Unfortunately those files have only 1-minute data Shrug♀️

  • Then it looks like the information in the article is not accurate, and the data is really not being recorded for later use. The article claims you can review the shorter interval in Garmin Connect, but I do not see any such possibility anywhere in GC, although I have a recent watch model. Hence I think the information is wrong.
