synch to strava app by itself without open gc?

I am new Garmin since one week :-)

After I searched  here and google and was unable to get specific answer to my question.

Last week i used my garmin watch first time and went to long running. When I arrived home and was surprised that it already synch to strava app. very impressive.

however the next time after my runnings, it hadn't synch automatically to strava app yet and then I opened garmin connect and then it automatically synch to strava.

My question is that

I thought my watch fenix 7 would automatically synch upload to Strava app by itself? or I have to open garmin connect app in order to synch automatically to strava app?

Does it (fenix 7) possible automatically synch to strava app via bluetooth (for how long? ) although i don't  open garmin connect yet?

thanks in advance

  • Thanks for your explanation about Wi-Fi.  Will it drain the battery? (googled and it mentioned that Wi-Fi really do drain...)

    update-

After another week again it is still the same issue. :-(

Although I disconnected and connected both Strava and GC app. Even refreshed my watch. It hadn't happened at all after I finished and saved my activities three times for one week.  3 activities didn't even show up in GC website. Then today I opened GC app it popped up synching both Strava and GC app.

  • Then today I opened GC app it popped up synching both Strava and GC app.

Then the sync to Strava works as it should. It is the sync from the watch to Garmin Connect that isn't working. Make sure that Garmin Connect always is running on your phone. Don't ever close it down. Remove any battery optimization for it that could close it or prevent it from starting.

You can force a sync from the watch. See if that works. Both to app and wifi. It should say sync complete if successful.

  • I think I already get confused cuz you mentioned last week that there has nothing to do with GC app right after I saved the activity in my watch. It would synch auto to Garmin server and it should show up in GC website? But I did check GC website the next day and it was nothing at all. why?did I miss something again???

By the way, can you rephrase about the battery? I done get it what you were trying to tell...

    Thanks in advance

  • The sync to Strava got nothing to do with the app, but you must sync the activities from the watch to the Garmin servers in some way and that can be done by the app, wifi or Garmin Express (on a computer). After the sync to Garmin servers are done the activities are transferred to Strava without the help of the app or the watch.

There are usually some battery optimization function on phones that will close down apps that use a lot of battery or stay running in the background. Since Garmin Connect always must be running, the battery optimization function should not touch Garmin Connect. Garmin Connect must stay running to do the sync.

Which phone do you have? Manufacturer and model.

  • iPhone 11 iOS 16.2

  • I don't think there is any battery optimization on iOS, but there are functions like "Background App Refresh" and "Low Data Mode" that can limit the sync for Garmin Connect.

  • Ok … thank you for your help. Have a nice day!
