New gear not automatically added running activities

Edit: There is a checkbox when adding new gear to add the gear to all previous activities. But if you are using different gear and have added other gear to previous activities in that data range it will probably get messy. 

You have to do that manually if the option above isn't what you want to do. 

I would instead check the distance for all those historic runs and add that to the name of the gear. Then when you follow up the distance for the shoes you just add that value to the final distance. 

Yes, default is only for new activities.

No, you do not need to. When creating the gear, tick the checkbox telling "Add to all xxxxx activities since xxxxxx" and the gear will be added to all of them.

That's a good way to do it, though it's visible only when adding a new gear.

Editing a gear won't have it.

So it's needed to remove a gear and re-add it with that option turned on.

Yes, that's true, but since you only need to do it once, it is easy to create the gear anew, and correctly this time.
