weight bug with custom strength training

Requirements:
- own workout with weights set and one bodyweight exercise in the middle
- count reps turned on (because without reps you are not asked for weight even if "edit weight" is on)
- edit weight turned on

Bug1: When ignoring the rep counter (because it counted correctly) it will record weight 0 in the activity.

If I enter the "edit reps" screen and go through to the "edit weight" screen it will preselect the weight set in the training to edit or confirm.
Also if "edit weight" is off the pre-planned weight is always recorded in the activity correctly, no matter if reps are adjusted or ignored.

Bug2: If a bodyweight exercise follows a weight exercise it will show the weight of the previous weight exercise instead of 0 as it should be. And it will be 0 in the stored activity if the rep counter is skipped.

If "edit weight" is off in will always record the correct weight preset in the activity no matter if its 0 for bodyweight or a larger value for a weight exercise.

Is this reproduceable on devices like Fenix 6, 7, Epix 2, Forerunner 955?

  • I have an epix 2. I experience bug 2 on a daily basis. Nonetheless, if I don't bother to edit the actual weight, the activity shows as correct in Garmin Connect. There are many posts on the epix and fenix 7 forums regarding this. pre-planned strength training, still bugs with weights

  • Yes but I would like to get it correct to present it to Garmin, so it is 100% reproducible and not happening at random. It just turned edit weight off and keep to my schedule, less to edit afterwards this way.

I just have to remember to turn it back on for a free training.

  • Bug 2 is 100% reproducible in my case. I reported it to Garmin about a month ago via the support site. Received a response that they are aware of the issue and are working on a fix.

Bug 1 I have not noticed, but will check later today. If the reps show as correct, I press start/stop to confirm as such, I don't just let it go, then also confirm the weight. I always go back into Garmin Connect to confirm everything looks correct. Have not seen the weight recorded as zero.

  • Can't get the ability to edit weight at all on my Forerunner 955 - doesn't seem to let me turn on 'Rep count' on my watch.. If I understand you correctly you say you need to turn that on to be able to edit weights.. I wish Garmin would make this clear, and of course work, on their watches if they are going to say it is a feature. I get the feeling it's just not possible to edit weights on the Forerunner 955..

  • Can't get the ability to edit weight at all

Set this up on Garmin Connect. This is typically what I do. All exercises are set to "Target Type - Lap Button Press," and "Manual Weight."

After making changes, sync the workout with Garmin Connect app or Garmin Express

Then when doing the workout, completing the exercise, and pressing lap button, you'll be prompted to confirm or edit the rep count, then the weight.

  • Thanks for this. Currently away from my computer so have edited my workout on Garmin connect iPhone app, deleted the previous workout and synced the new one with lap press (instead of heart rate aFingers crossedI had previously.) Was hoping it would work Fingers crossed but unfortunately no screen for me to change weight and/or reps unfortunately - I’ll try edit the workout on my computer so I’m seeing the screen the same as your screenshot. Here’s a screenshot of my updated workout via mobile connect app.. Are you using a Forerunner 955 (solar) too? I previously had the forerunner 945 and was told by a customer support at Garmin that that watch did not support editing weights.. Shrug tone1

  • If it's like this in the app, and it's a manually created workout

Syncing over Bluetooth to your watch is not the most reliable. Try it again or wait until you can sync with Garmin Express. If you still cannot do it, then maybe it's not possible on the 955. I have an epix (Gen 2).

Seems there is a slight difference between Outdoor multipsort Watches (epix, fenix, etc.) and Forerunner watches.

Press UP or DOWN to add or remove weight.

Editing the Reps Manually on a Strength Workout | Forerunner® 955

If you are using a manually created workout from Garmin Connect you will need to create a rest period after each set to be able to manually enter the reps and weight. After the workout is finished you can edit the reps and weight of the sets before you stop the timer.

  • The new workout (including rest periods) has transferred to my forerunner the same as it appears in Garmin connect, including rest periods and lap button press. Have double checked using it, but once pressing lap button there is no apparent way to adjust reps or weight used. Really bugging me now. It does say in the forerunner manual this should be possible..

.. Although it doesn’t mention details here of having to add rest periods or using lap press button, which is poor manual instructions - I have never been super keen on Garmins Weight lifting usability but I would like it to work as it says it should. Just thinking it’s a mistake on them that they, deliberately or not, don’t have the same features on the forerunner, even though they seem to say it should. Will pester them on this as I see it as false advertising

  • Did you forget to enable rep and weight count in the settings of the activity?

  • Do you mean on the watch? (As opposed to on Garmin connect). The odd thing is, on the watch, in settings for strength training, rep counting is set to off, and seems to have no option to turn it on - it says ‘workouts only’ I think. ‘Edit weight’ is turned on however.
