Cycling Intensity Minutes form Edge 1040 Solar being excluded

I use a Fenix 7x and a Edge 1040 Solar.  It seems Garmin wont include activities recorded on the Edge 1040 even though it does include heart rate using a Wahoo TickR X HR Monitor strap.

Example, today I went to the gym and recoded that session with my Fenix 7x.  The minutes were recoded and intensity minutes updated as expected. Afterwards I went for a 2 hour bike ride.

  • The cycling activity can be seen with HR recoded in the attached image.
  • But the intensity minutes were not included.
  • As you can see on the daily summary image the HR is also not showing in the summary graph for the duration of the cycling activity.

This makes the data reporting rather inaccurate.

  • The cycling activity is private so we can't look at it.

The heart rate on the daily timeline comes from your activity tracker. Wear your Fenix watch on your ride and you will see the HR.

  • As for the HR in the all-day graph - it will not be included unless you connect the HRM belt to your watch too, and keep the watch nearby (yes, you can link the HRM with multiple devices simultaneously).

As for the IM - Edge 1040 should indeed record them (unlike most other Edge computers). Try syncing both the watch, and the Edge computer one after the other, and then repeat the syncing of first device again, in order that they exchange all data through the Physio TrueUp feature. If they don't, verify the feature is enabled on both devices, and repeat the syncing again.

  • I have the same random problem with the Fenix 7 sapphire solar and the edge 1040 solar. I even tried a new Pro HR belt which stores Intensity minutes and HR. Intensity minutes show on the edge 1040 but don't go through to Connect never mind the Fenix 7 (consecutive synching bla bla!) it is random and sometimes works after a ride. Sounds like the problem with the power consumption on the Fenix 7. It went from 4% per day to 14% per day a few months ago and I had recommendations of all sorts of things to change but a later Garmin Firmware fix sorted it. I have tried everything with this Intensity minutes and nothing works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In order to get IM from HRM-Pro, it has to be added to your Garmin Connect app over BT directly (not only being added to the Edge or the watch!).

Not sure why the IMs do not get synced from your Edge to Fenix, but if you wear also the F7 during your the rides, it may be because the F7 did not record any IMs, and since it is probably set as the "Primary Training Device", the data from it have the priority over other sources. A solution for it was already posted in this thread previously - link the HRM-Pro to the F7 too, and start an activity on it in the same time as on the Edge (you can discard it at the end, instead of saving, to avoid the duplicate recording). If you do not start any activity, the F7 will continue using just the wrist OHRM, and the data from it may be considerably different than from the HRM-Pro, and hence can result in wrong IM logging.

If nothing of it helps, I recommend contacting the Product Support directly, and asking them to investigate it.

  • Thanks for the insight. I never ride with my fenix so I figure from what you said about the primary takes preference that when I arrive home sometimes my watch randomly synchs first before I end my acivity on the edge. I now switch off bluetooth on my watch before I leave and so far so good. Awesome it works. The intensity trueups to my watch but if the watch were to synch first no amount of consecutive device synching will allow the edge minutes to go to connect and the watch. I dont believe it should be like this but at least I know how to work around this. Thanks!
