Feature request: make all activity types available when setting up an activity

It would be so easy if I could just setup my activity to the type "inline skating" for example, but I can't. Instead I have to select the type after it was stored as cycling (or whatever I used as substitute) and if I use Strava I even have to do that twice per activity.

Later today I have a thing where I copied a running activity (to have access to a planned progress with rounds and pauses) where I already know I have to re-categorize it as "other" afterwards in Garmin and Strava.

Just let us use every available activity type with our activities.

  • You can use a CIQ app to set an activity type not supported by your device. For example the following ones (there may be more of them)

Or directly an app designed for the sport you need. In the case of Inline Skating, there is indeed a wide choice:

Connect IQ Store | Free Watch Faces and Apps | Garmin

Do not make it a copy of Running, create it rather from the scratch - it will be then an "Other" type of an activity. Laps and pauses are available at any type of activity, AFAIK.

Otherwise, for suggesting new features, use rather the form at Share Ideas | Garmin. On the user forum there is not a big chance it would be noticed by anyone from Garmin.

  • Nope can't do that because the current watch firmware crashes IQ apps if they access GPS. Also IQ apps so far don't support all that mutliband satIQ stuff.

Handling this internally with the same setup process for custom pages is a much more safe and preferred way to do it.

Creating one from scratch being "other" type sounds good. But it won't do pauses, just laps. And of course does not help with all the other types in the list that are not directly available.

As for contacting them directly, you are right, but they don't care if I'm the only one asking, so this is meant to gather support that also contacts Garmin.

I do not know anything about it. My watch is all right in that matter. In your place I'd test it anyway - perhaps it does not concern all apps.

Also IQ apps so far don't support all that mutliband satIQ stuff.

I can't tell since I do not have that feature, so cannot test it, but CIQ API Level >= 3.3.6 allows SatIQ, as far as I can see. And the description of the app "Any Activity" claims "GPS (really, what ever you have selected for your location tracking) can be enabled/disabled in the app menu.", so again, I'd recommend testing it first, before dismissing.

    But it won't do pauses

Auto-pause is available at custom activities of the type Other, too. I just checked it.

  • It does concern all apps as its a general bug with the firmware not the apps.

Allowing satIQ still means I have to wait for the developers to implement it, still missing multiband, also no IQ datafields in IQ apps.

    I'm not talking about auto-pause.

But then I don't know what you are doing here anyway, whose question you are answering.

I made a proposal about a missing function, not asking how to (poorly) work around it, that I am aware of anyway cause I can use google.

So what kind of pause? The pause in the activity menu (the one with Resume / Save / Resume Later ...)? That works with Other activities too, for me.

Sorry, I was just trying to help you finding solutions in the time before your suggestion gets implemented (possibly a few years). I apologize if my advices offend you.
