Garmin Noosa Triathlon 2022 badge?

In order to get badge:

  1. Must I record it as Triathlon, or can I just start with swim, them change the activity by hotkey to bike and finally run creating Brick activity on the fly?
  2. Are the transitions/or their absence important?
  3. Should my GPS track be exactly matched to the event, or could I swim a bit longer loop?
  • 1. There is no triathlon activity type. It is the multisport type. You will create a multisport activity the way you describe it.

    2. Don't know but unlikely.

    3. From my tests of other race badges the track must at least match the starting and/or end points for the race. It looks like the starting point is "Noosa Heads Lions Park, Noosa Heads". Start there on the correct date. I don't believe the time is important.

I believe you misunderstood. There are two ways of registering a triathlon (or more generally - a multisport activity). One of them is to create a multisport profile (or use a predefined one, like "triathlon"). The other method is to start an open water swim activity, and then switch sports on-the-go with the "next sport" hot key. The latter method gives you the advantage of deciding on-the-go which sport to do next (although not applicable in a triathon). Another advantage is the possibility to mark laps. OP asks if it makes any difference which method you use in context of getting the badge. My guess would be no, but I never verified it myself.

  • The result will be the same no matter which method you use since they both will create a multisport activity.

There is one slight difference and that is the transitions. There will not be any transitions in the ad-hoc multisport mode.

I believe that the OP is trying to get the badge at a different location than the race since if you can do it at the race location you will interfere with the race if you are doing the same track at the same day.

    Sounds reasonable.

I believe that the OP is trying to get the badge at a different location than the race since if you can do it at the race location you will interfere with the race if you are doing the same track at the same day.

Or perhaps he is participating in the race, and he's worried that he won't get the badge if an improper method is used to register the activity. As you said - and I agree - the method probably doesn't matter, but since it isn't clearly specified in the badge description, one can have doubts.

  • The description says "Complete the Garmin Noosa Triathlon in Noosa, Australia, on October 30, 2022."

It doesn't say anything about the activity type. I says that you must do the race "Garmin Noosa Triathlon" on a specific date "October 30, 2022" at a specific location "in Noosa, Australia". Nothing about how it should be logged. If the user got a watch that doesn't support multisport mode it will be logged as for example Running.

I will do some tests on Sunday. One test will be a too short run activity that starts at the correct location, but ends somewhere else. Another test will be that it starts somewhere else and ends at the correct location. I will try to create a triathlon at the correct location and see the limitations.

  • Nothing about how it should be logged.

My point exactly. Since it isn't specified, it is quite understandable, that OP could have doubts about it.
