Garmin Edge - I have elevation data, but no GPS map

My Garmin edge tracked my ride, shows an elevation profile but no GPS data. Is there any way to recover the GPS mapping? I have not had this trouble previously, but my Edge 530 was having trouble before I started this ride and apparently did not track correctly. Any help would be appreciated.

Was the GPS locked? Did it show the map while riding?

I didn't notice the map while I was riding I was on a data screen, it was tracking elevation though. However, there was no map available like usual after the ride.

The elevation comes from the barometric altimeter, not from GPS. Next time you ride, verify that GPS is locked before starting, and check the map up and then. Also make sure the ephemeris data is up-to-date. The safest way to update it is in Garmin Express (connected over the USB cable to a computer).
