Suddenly Cannot Create "Event"

For the past 8 years or so I have been using Garmin Connect not only to track my runs, but also to track various other related things. I create "Events" in order to post these things to my Calendar.

I did this as recently as yesterday.

As of today, I cannot do so, and receive the following message in a red text box:

"We couldn't complete your request. Please try again."

I am also not able to edit past Events.

I did not alter the steps in any way, shape, or form – I used the same steps as I have used successfully for the past approximately 8 years – hence the issue is not user error.

Have tried multiple browsers.

All other internet functions are operating as per normal.

Has anyone else encountered this issue? Any ideas to rectify it?

Thanks

Edit: I've discovered that I can create an Event, but I now have to select "Other" under "Event Type" – this is a new requirement as of today.

While this little tweak gives me back the ability to create Events, adding an Event Type creates a redundant text field when I view the Event.

Oh well – at least Garmin is consistent in its inconsistency.

"Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose" – as the saying puts it.

  • Yea, it is broken. Cannot add events and when I want to correct some events (move to past date) it is not possible.

  • I've found a workaround: simply choose an "Event Type" – once having done so, you can add and edit events. Additionally, you can click and drag events to any day on your calendar. This is helpful if you want to create an Event that happened on a day previous to the present day.

  • I cannot move event to a past date - it shows a red error banner and json response says "DateTimeParseException"

  • Sorry to hear that. Does this occur even after an Event has been successfully created?

In case it helps, I'll outline the steps I take to create (and move) an Event.

    1. On the Calendar, click on the present day to evoke the "Add" menu
    2. Select "Event"
    3. Select "Create an event" from the menu, then select "Next"
    4. Create a name for the Event
    5. Select "Virtual"
    6. Deselect "Race"
    7. Under "Event Type" select "Other"
    8. Under "Distance" select "(Event name) is a time-based event"
    9. Select "Add to Calendar"

This – for me – does the trick. I can then drag the new Event to any day on my calendar.

    Hope this helps.

  • Agree with all of this. Too many irrelevant mandatory fields and not able to change date. Make it less restrictive so it is possible to easily create events (title and date are the only absolutely needed fields) and see them on the calendar

  • Amen to that! A minimalist approach has great merit.

  • this bug is still existing today.... which is a shame...
I can create an event as described here, but then only with the type "Other" - meaning I can never set it to "MTB" which then allows me to select the course and that would (or should) then automatically prepare the plan according to length and elevation...

  • and same problem exists on the app - Garmin Support hasn't gotten back to me yet
