Hi All - TEMPORARY SOLUTION!
I've had same issue - couldn't save an imported GPX file on the Connect app. This is the workaround I figured out until the bug is fixed.

After the latest update, importing GPX routes from Gaia or other sources no longer works. I am thru hiking the Appalachian Trail, and have been relying on this feature daily for the past 3 months, and without it, the watch is almost useless to me.
Upon importing any GPX route, I get the following error:
I would just use the built in route builder, but it's also broken to the point of being completely non functional, so I'm left with no way to create routes for the watch.
Is there some way I can roll back my version to one that works? Or am I once again at the mercy of the Garmin devs?
This is a known issue as reported here - In mobile app and web I can no longer save GPX files I have uploaded - Garmin Connect Web - Mobile Apps & Web - Garmin Forums

Thanks for your reply - well do. Nige
This issue is still open as far as I am aware, Garmin have asked for a serial number - but not acknowledged a problem
Surely it's more to do with the Connect App?
As for not acknowledging the problem, that's poor...
I've contracted uk customer support as well, so let's see what they have to say.
Cheers, Nige
I've just tried what someone else suggested - removing all the course markers on one of the routes i was trying to save. IT WORKED! The course saved in the App.
But to be honest, it's a pain... Garmin need to sort it.
Cheers, Nige
So I figured out the problem for me.
If I created it in OS Maps, when I imported the gpx to connect, it fails to save. A workaround for this which works for me is to edit the gpx file. If I open it in a text editor, I have to remove all the <wpt lines of code. Leaving only the <rtept code it can then be saved and imported to Connect. Saved first time.
Hi All - TEMPORARY SOLUTION!
I've had same issue - couldn't save an imported GPX file on the Connect app. This is the workaround I figured out until the bug is fixed.
1) Convert the GPX file to Garmin Course TCX file via the free All Trails online convertor service
2) Then import the TCX file via Garmin Connect web desktop interface.
3) Then the route saves fine and appears in the app so can be uploaded / sync'd to ones watch..
Cheers.
