Recording a hike

Vivoactive 4S user here.  How can I record a hike?  I typically record a "walk" and then change it manually on the app. However, there is a hiking challenge this month and I don't think it will accept if I change an active after the fact.

  • How can I record a hike?

Try looking for an IQ app in the app store. Or you can do it the way you did it before, i.e. change the actvity type in garmin connect.

    I think it will.

  • It will work if you log it as a walk and afterwards change it to hike.

  • I noticed something strange after doing that last week to a WALKING activity.

The miles added to the 2022 Walking - Stage 2 challenge, and after I changed the activity to HIKING the miles never deleted from the challenge. I don't think I ever noticed that before.

I changed it back to WALKING and the miles didn't change....strange.

In June upcoming, I would expect the miles to be subtracted from the WALKING challenge when I rename it, and added to a HIKING challenge, and the reverse of course. .I'm waiting to test it.

Or has Garmin changed the rule that you can't use a Hiking activity to get Walking challenge miles? Maybe now you can? Like I said strange!

  • It is a bug. The distance will be recalculated when you log the next activity. When you change the activity type back and forth the distance will count for both challenges until the next activity for each type.
