Incorrect Heart Rate zones - HELP!!

Hello, first time posting on here and am hoping someone may be able to help me. I recently upgraded me Fenix 5 to a Fenix 6 Pro Solar. When it arrived I added it to my Garmin connect profile and started using it. Now what I didn't realise is that this watch had been bought by somebody before me, set up and used for a bit, before being returned! I complained to the retailer and they refunded me some money but when I synced it (thinking it was new) it overrode my information on Garmin Connect putting me as a 30 year old female when in fact I'm a 39 year old man!! I think I've rectified everything but my heart rate zones are now significantly different than previously on my Fenix 5 and I assume its related to this?

For context my RHR is 57 bpm and VO2 Max is 49.

on my Fenix 5 - Z1 was 106-109, Z2 was 110 - 144, Z3 was 145 - 154. etc

on my Fenix 6 the zones are massively different - Z1 is 90 - 107, Z2 is 108 - 125, Z3 is 126 - 143. etc

obviously these are now much lower than they previously were. I do quite a lot of Z2 training so this has confused me and I'm not sure what to do or how to rectify it? Would doing a threshold test on my fenix 6 sort this out? Any help or suggestions gratefully received.

Regards

Graham

  • You can adjust the HR Zones in any way you wish. So if you want the identical HR Zones as on your F5, just go to the Device Settings » User Profile » Heart Rate » Zones, and edit them as needed. Keep on mind that besides the main general HR Zones table, there may be also separate HRZ tables for individual sports, and those will override the main HRZ if doing the respective sport, so make sure you adjusted all of them accordingly!

Also make sure you correct any wrong personal data in the user profile.

Doing the Guided LT Test, and using the LT for HR Zones, is certainly the best choice.

BTW, after buying a second hand device, the first thing to do, is doing the master reset to factory defaults.

  • Hi thanks for the help, it wasn't actually a second hand device, it was bought as new but it had clearly been sold to somebody previously, set up and returned. I was pretty annoyed that its was then sold to me as new! I'll try doing the LT Test and see if that rectifies it. Cheers
