Navigation problem when using map

When I create a cycling route using Garmin connect, even if it is a rather simple one (50km defined by around 10 points placed on the map), I cannot use the planned route for an activity. I have the navigation set to 'use map' as a want the watch to recalculate the route if I divert off the planned route. When loading the route, the watch starts calculating and is stuck there for eternity (I have waited for 1h+). This is the case for every route I create or import. Is this normal? If it is it would render the navigation feature pretty useless in my opinion...

    Is this for all courses you create in Garmin Connect or just some? Can you attach the course to this thread so we can see what might be wrong with it? 

    Open the course in Garmin Connect then "Download (FIT)

    • Zip the file, then in a reply post Insert >> Image/video/file >> click Upload >> browse for file >> OK.
    • Or upload the fit file to a file sharing service, such as OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, etc., make the file public, then paste a link to the file in your post.

    Not sure whether it could be the culprit in your case, but seeing a German name, I told myself that you have perhaps used an umlaut or another character with diacritics in the name of the course or at the waypoints. I have no idea whether it is still an issue, but I remember that years ago, these special characters could cause crashes or a stale functionality, on the device. Have a look for example at this thread for some details: https://forums.garmin.com/de/outdoor/wandern-und-handgerate/f/fenix-5-serie/12902/strecken-mit-umlaut Although the last comment tells it was already fixed, perhaps some older devices may still have problems with the diacritics.

    Thanks a lot for your reply. This problem appears for every single route I create. After around 15min of calculating and being stuck the watch crashes and reboots. I have attached one example fit file: 25km with a minimum number of points.COURSE_106437767.zip

    Thanks for the suggestion and the link. I am indeed german, but I haven't used any potentially problematic characters in my routes.

    I had no problems with that course on an epix Gen 2 watch.

    • Copied file to the PC\EPIX \Primary\GARMIN\Courses folder on the watch
    • Started a Bike activity, Menu >> Navigation >> Courses >> select course

    Took 1 second to load the course and start the activity. I suspect something is wrong with your Garmin. Which model do you have? I would backup then remove the \GARMIN\Courses folder from the watch (Garmin OS will recreate the folder upon disconnecting from your computer). Then try loading the course again. If still no joy, might require a reset to factory settings.

    The model I have is a epix gen 2 and I'm running the current firmware (I had similar issues with older firmware, though). I have tried deleting the 'Courses' folder and it did not help. I also performed a full factory reset with no success either. After the factory reset I did not install any additional apps and also did not change any settings (except for the use map setting of course)

    If you've done all of that, next step is to contact Garmin Support directly https://support.garmin.com
