Coach Greg Half Marathon Plan: Midway Through Switch to Only Easy Runs

I am on Week 8 of 13 for my upcoming half marathon. So far everything has been great and I had 2-3 weeks of buildup with easy runs, then past few weeks have been mixed with workouts (stride repeats/speed intervals/goal pace run/progression runs, etc.)

My long runs are on the weekends, but last weekend I went shorter than the prescribed time and got a "room to grow" rating. I figured it wasn't that big of a deal, my confidence was still in the purple zone... and yet much to my shock the next week's workout schedule was 4x Easy Runs of only 30 mins.

I was so confused, I tried refreshing and switching some inputs in the plan as I have seen others say that will help rejigger everything... but no luck. Still all easy runs of 30 mins.

I have ~5 weeks left of my plan and it seems like the next 2 weeks are scheduled as if I just started the plan, short easy runs of presumably 3-4 miles. I don’t think it's appropriate that 1 shorter than prescribed long run should make me start from scratch... is this a known glitch or is there a way to get me back on schedule?

Thanks!!

  • I'd love Garmin to comment on the many posts concerning this situation. Im into week 3 and all easy so far with first couple of week 4 the same. Cant see beyond that yet. Hate to think Im going to do 17 weeks of this !

Come on Garmin, whats the score

  • Same here, all coach Greg tells me to do is easy runs... I have no clue how he expects me to do the HM in 1h32m... The plan feels really useless.

  • I have the same issue. This really stresses me. I would not have started this in the first place. I tried to switch to the female trainer now. But i really have lost trust in this.

  • I'm in the same situation, did it ever fixed for you?

  • Well I can’t remember how many weeks of easy runs there was but eventually they started to become longer/faster etc

  • Hi, I’m in the same situation !!! I have 4 weeks left in the plan before my HM and I only have easy runs and goal pace runs planned. I don’t have any long runs since 2-3 weeks !

  • Same with me, my race is on October 1st and for past week and next week it's just easy runs or runs on goal pace

  • I’m doing a 21-week coach Greg plan to run half marathon in 1h38m. I’m in week 16 now and last long run / progressive run / speed repeats were all in week 13 and prior. Since then, it’s alternating easy runs and goal pace runs - all less than an hour long. I have completed all but one run throughout the program and am matching all the goal paces. Confidence is high (in the purple). I did notice his plan says it is for 12-16 week training plans and I wondered if maybe it kicks you into a holding pattern if you schedule the plan for longer than this? Is that perhaps what is happening for you all as well?
