Could you guys please add connections over water in the courses app? Another tip: I was using strava premium before this only for their map functionality. I have an Edge 530 but I never knew you could make similar maps with Garmin. Could be promoted a bit more I think, or at least not be such a hidden functionality.

It is already available. Select the Freehand mode, and add the crossing over water, wherever you want.
I just did a test at that location on the map and it routed my across the water along the ferry line. It didn't do it every time and I don't know when and why it selected the way around or the one with the ferry. If you really want to use the ferry then add a point on the ferry line in the water.
When you create routes it is always a good idea to check the route afterwards and see that it routes you the way you want and make minor adjustments if needed.
