Resting Calories way too low

My resting calories count is listed as 1395! Why would it be this low? I'm 60 but that still shouldn't make the count that low. I use a Garmin Venu. I have a  low heart rate, 49-51, could that be messing up the number? Am i not allowed more calories than that? Sheesh!

  • Resting Calories depend on the body data you entered into the user profile - age, gender, weight, height. Did you verify that they are correctly entered?

And also, depending where you look, for the current day you typically see the resting Calories burned during the completed time of the given day. So unless you look just before the midnight, you won't see the 24h value there.

You can better see your true daily Resting Calories, for example here in the Reports:

    https://connect.garmin.com/modern/report/41/wellness/last_seven_days

  • Yes, i know this. Each day, resting calories are combined with active calories.  I look at previous days. I think most people understand that the app is estimating the days calories burned up to that point each day   My resting calories are daily 1395,. Daily. So with a vigorous run giving me extra 450 calories, total calories burned that day is  still pretty low. On a non-running rest day, even with working, it might only read 1458 calories total. That just doesn't seem accurate to me. I know that these are just numbers, but they seem very different from any chart I've ever seen.

  • Did you verify the values of your age, gender, weight, height in the user profile? The Resting Calories are calculated based on a mathematical model using these values. If you know your Resting Metabolic Rate is higher, for example you had it measured in a lab, then you could adjust some of the values to get a better fitting result.

You can also verify the RMR with one of numerous online RMR calculator. Mostly they give even lower result than what Garmin calculates. Try for example this one, or google some others: https://www.gigacalculator.com/calculators/rmr-calculator.php

You can also adjust the parameter Activity Class - it has certain impact on the way Calories are counted. Although if I remember well, and if it did not change in the meantime, it impacts rather the active Calories, not the RMR, although it would be logical in the opposite way.
