why do people who have never seen Garmin Connect, make support it?

Session started between Joshua and Adrian
Adrian: Dear Support,

The visibility of the upcoming events under my profile has been removed...

Joshua:

Hi, I am happy to help. Which Garmin device do you have?

Adrian: Lot of Garmin devices, but it doesn't matter

Adrian: the issue is in Garmin Connect

Joshua: This is in the Calendar correct for scheduled workouts?

Adrian: not quite... the events are entered in Calendar, but they are displayed under profile, right bellow "Favorites"

Joshua: About how many events and what are these events titled?

Joshua: Now they are not displayed correct?

Adrian: All events. I enter only events which are Races, but in Upcoming Events the upcoming 5 are dispayed at the same time

Adrian: Right..under my profile, just the Favorites are displayed, nothing else

Joshua: Are you on the web version of Garmin Connect or the Garmin Connect app?

Adrian: both

Joshua: Also, what country are you located in please?

Adrian: from the problem standpoint - doesn't matter...

Joshua: May I have permission to access Garmin Connect account to view this data?

Adrian: My profile is public ever since I joined Garmin

Adrian: yes, you may

Joshua: Are there some April runs missing in the calendar that should be upcoming?

Adrian: nope, next up Race is June 19 and June25

Adrian: these are upcoming

Joshua: Okay so can you please go in detail of what is exactly missing from the account?

Joshua: Each step of what you are following to see the missing data.

Adrian: Under my profile, at the bottom left, under Recent Favorites

Adrian: the Upcoming Events are missing

Adrian: these have been entered in Calendar, but not getting displayed under my profile

Adrian: this is set up at: Account Settings --> Public Profile

Joshua: So the top one I am seeing is Oravaman. This is listed as a favorite activity. Once the activity or course is performed you will favorite this and then it should show up on this list. This will not display upcoming events but rather activities already performed.

Adrian: Oravaman is not upcoming
Adrian: I set up as Favorit 3 years of that race

Joshua: Yes, so once activities that have been performed you will Favorite them. Then they will show up on this list.

Adrian: ...and this was working for the Upcoming Events as well

Adrian: but probably one "smart" developer make it disappear within update

Joshua: It is possible Garmin's app and API have recently been updated. I am not seeing the option to Favorite an upcoming specific activity. You can favorite courses although under Training > Courses. But this would not show under Recent favorites.

Adrian: Upcoming events never been an option to Favorite

Adrian: forget the Favorite Events, because those are displayed...and no issues with that

Adrian: under account settings -- Public Profile

Adrian: can be selected what will be displayed

Adrian: I have selected Upcoming Events, however these are not getting displayed

Adrian: why people who never seen Garmin Connect, making support on it?

Joshua: I am on Garmin Connect daily. Trying to assist. Thankyou for the specifics. Where was the Upcoming Events recently being displayed? On the Dashboard of Connect or where?

Adrian: once again... The Upcoming Events entered in Calendar used to be displayed under user Profile.

Adrian: now they are NOt... even if other informations specified in profile settings are on

Joshua: Here is a link with some potential troubleshooting steps for this issue. Please follow. Events and Other Items Not Showing in My Garmin Calendar Widget This should help with the issue.

Adrian: nope

Adrian: Garmin Connect Calendar is not a third party app and I am not using Apple phone

Joshua: Check the Calendar permissions as well to see if all is enabled.

Adrian: all enabled

Joshua: I am also seeing the device has not been synced since 3/26 this could also be a reason. I would suggest syncing the device with Garmin Express and making sure everything with the device is up to date with software and bug fixes. This can also sync data over to Garmin Connect. www.garmin.com/.../

Adrian: nope...you have no idea what are you talking about

Adrian: Devices have nothing to do with events entered in Calendar

Adrian: it should be working for those users as well, who have Connect Profile, but no device or activity

Joshua: Still the fact remains. A device has not been synced since 3/26 so there is no daily summary data. Would you be able to provide some screenshots of upcoming events missing in Garmin Connect. I see the box is checked in Connect for upcoming events. This will help us investigate the issue.

  • why do people who have never seen Garmin Connect, make support it?

Joshua: I am on Garmin Connect daily. Trying to assist.

Seems like they have seen Garmin Connect. I would suggest submitting screenshots as requested...

Would you be able to provide some screenshots of upcoming events missing in Garmin Connect.
  • yes, that is common... users who have see the invisiblenever seen Garmin Connect require a screenshot...

  • Things are always clearer with a screenshot. Did you send that to Joshua? To be honest, it wasn't clear to me either from reading your chat session transcript. After seeing that image, it now makes perfect sense, even though I've been using Garmin Connect for 13 years (since 2009). I also can see where upcoming events are not displayed on my profile, even though I'm allowing it. Didn't even realize it was missing until I saw your post.

I hope it works out for you. Please post back when you get some resolution. Slight smile

  • I did reply to Joshua with screenshot... But: If it is not clear, why to blame third party APIs, then device updates, put it depending on countries and just coming up with fictive reasons... de facto lying?

  • He probably thought about some other issue and used the standard issue solution methods. Always use images, links to pages and even videos to describe your issue. An image says so much more than written text.

  • Also earlier there were some problems with displaying allowed data on profile or in activities. Some were fixed, some still not.

For example - if you open an activity as non-logged, then badges and gears won't be displayed, even if a creator of an activity set everything to public - links to that data are blocked by 403 Forbidden for quite long time now.

Or on a profile, conversations for each activity also get 403 if non-logged.

You can easily check it by opening a public activity in PrivateMode as non-logged.
For example you can open activity from 8th April as it has a badge.

So, would be nice if they clean up those permissions errors and similar.
