Fittness/Body Age

Hello. Have any of you Garmin users noticed that body age and Vo2 max have gotten significantly worse after the 3rd Corona Vaccination plug ?. I'm NOT the only one who has noticed. I came across my brother-in-law quite by chance about it. About 2-3 weeks after 3. Vaccination became significantly worse and has still not returned. Vo2 Max has gone from 40> 36. And body age from 20> 35 years

  • When did you have your 3rd jab? There was a change a while back where your achievable fitness age was brought more in line with reality.

  • I had the 3. Corona Vaccination 18. December

  • Hi Garmin Users.

I am very interested to hear if somebode have seen the same at Connect App.

My brother in law see exactly the same as me,,,= ,,both 5hings worse after 3. Corona Vaccination

  • As  wrote, there was a change in the algorithms, so I would not rely much on those values. Unless you have measured your VO₂Max in a lab before and after, or unless your performances significantly dropped too, I would not bother about those two values at all.

  • many thanks for the response. yes, I understand, but have been measuring my Vo2 max via the Garmin Watch/Connect app for several years. Feels everything has been as usual, but still both Vo2 max has gone down significantly and body age has gone up significantly. Both shortly after 3. Vaccination plug. Hoped that some Garmin users would check their also 1 to 2 months before and after the 3rd plug. I think it is very interesting IF Corona / Vaccination may also have had an impact there. OR do you think it's a fault with the Garmin watch?

  • No, as already written by and by myself, I think it is because the algorithms Garmin uses for the calculation of the VO₂Max and for the Fitness Age, changed recently.

  • ok thank you.

Strange that Garmin itself does not mention it when I ask them. So what do you think is correct ?. Should it be the current numbers? From now and in future?

  • So what do you think is correct ?

I assume that if they changed the algorithm, it was to make the estimates more realistic, than it was earlier. It does not mean they will not adjust the algorithm in future again. If you want a reliable VO₂Max value, have a VO₂Max test in a lab. An estimate by a fitness  watch will be always just that - an estimate, not necessarily the true value.

  • Sorry but my english is not super good. But I understand your answer now. It's hard to say what will be the most correct as I ONLY know the numbers from BEFORE. They have always been reasonably smooth. And only after the 3rd plug (December 18) do the numbers fluctuate very much. Does anyone know WHEN Garmin has "adjusted" it?

  • Does anyone know WHEN Garmin has "adjusted" it?

It depends on your device model, and when it got the modified firmware update. You best ask in the respective subforum dedicated to the watch model you use. The users there should know the approximate date when the new firmware was released. Or have a look in the changelog that Garmin publishes on the firmware page for your model. Unfortunately I do not know where Garmin moved the changelogs. Originally they were at https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp, but I do not find them anymore. You could use the Time machine at archive.org or a cached version in Google, to find the older copies.
