Why so different the calorie consumption with the same activity if the GPS is UltraTrac or the GPS is off?

If the GPS enabled normally (smart or every seconds) I burn a lot more (I mean 1500 instead of 1050 or 850 instead of 580) calories with the same activity, for example:

Almost same duration (varies between few minutes per hour) almost same pace (between 10:30 and 11:05 OR 11:50 and 12:25) and the same road (with the same elevation considering the weather, I mean in a stormy weather I climbed 100 floors in 2 hours walking activity so I also excluded these anomalies).

So why is this thing?

And one more question: The 3D Distance and 3D speed does anything with calorie burning? I mean if I walk uphill on a mountain slope with slower pace I burn more or the same calorie than I walk faster in a completely flat, slightly sloping part.

  • You did not tell what device you use, but as long as it has a HR sensor, the distance or the GPS mode have no impact on the Calories calculation. The calculation is based on the HR (and HR Variability). Even if you do the same track at the same pace, it does not mean your effort, and hence the HR, and consequently also the Calories, were the same too.
