Golf Activity does not count toward Walking Badge

I have a Fenix 5 t that I use for Biking, Mountain Biking, Walking and Golf. When I play golf I walk. Garmin post the scores, shows the distance covered and steps when I golf. However, it does not count the distance toward Garmin Walking Badges. Any way to get credit to the badge for walking when one golfs? I realize some people may "ride" when the play, but many of us walk. If it is not a feature, Perhaps Garmin can give an option somewhere to check that you "walked" and get credit toward the walk badge.

  • To get credit toward the walking badges you must log the activity as "Walk".

  • I figured that - but when golfing you have to select "golf" to select the downloaded course you are playing and for the GPS to work for each hole on the course (distance to green, score, etc.) - I guess after the event is completed you can edit and change it to a walk activity - just don't know how that effects the round posted to the Garmin Golf app. Not the end of the world to not to be able to do it - would have been nice to have the credit as a walk activity in addition to golf activity.

  • I have the same issue. I always like to complete my walking challenges but when I use my Vivofit4 for golf it records the route and mileage I’ve done but it does not count as walking. Pretty mean when I usually cover over 5 miles each round and then have to do a separate walk to count toward the challenge.

  • You could use the multi-sport feature ("Change Sport") - record the walks as Walks, and the golf as Golf. You'll still have a single activity with the complete map, but the golf and walk legs will be separated, and the walk will count towards badges and challenges.

Well, you'd need a watch supporting the multi-sport feature, though. I do not think the entry-level Vivo models have it.

  • Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve not seen multi sport as an option on my watch or in the instruction manual so I assume it isn’t supported by it when starting the activity. I do get separate activities for the scorecard and the walking/tracking part of the golf in the connect app so I did wonder about retrospectively changing the activity type for the track part of the golf as I’ve seen that also offered as a solution. I tried it with a recent golf track and it worked in terms of allowing it to be converted to a walk and adding it to my walking total. The app does warn about losing data when switching activity types. I can’t see any connection between the track and the scorecard parts of the golf activity (other than the time) so maybe it doesn’t affect anything important.

  • As I wrote, AFAIK the Vivo models do not support the feature of multisport, so you'd need a true Garmin watch, not just a Vivo device, for that solution. Without multisport you either have to use the Walk activity for recording your golf sessions, in order to have them counted for the Walk badges, or changing the type of the Golf activities to Walk later in Garmin Connect.

  • As of right now you cannot select golf as an option for multi-sport, at least on the epix 2.
