What are the number of points needed for Levels from challenges/ badges?

Please can Garmin publish a list of how many total points are  needed for each level as well as how many points to the next level.

Also I have heard that there are now 10 levels, can you confirm this?

Has anyone tried to keep track of each time they get a new level and the points to the next level? If so we can workout a few of the numbers.

  • Actually, it's the opposite, it's thread about points, not pointless :-p

  • Since reaching the next level requires twice the points as that required to reach the current level inform previous one, the time needed to reach the next level is nearly the same as the total time needed to reach the current level. So, if it took you 2 years to reach level 5, you'll reach level 6 two years after that (assuming you'll keep up getting the same number of points per month). This is a geometric series and so it grows exponentially. Reaching level 10 takes a lifetime.

  • Yes, the formula is exponential, you need exactly 20*2^(x-2) to go from level x-1 to level x, and 20*[2^(x-1)-1] total points to reach level x. Assuming you'll keep can get 20 points a month you can easily calculate how many months it will take to do so by just dropping the factor of 20.

  • I agree, subverting the system does nothing.  It is a system that gets the job done. Like any competition, following the rules and getting out there can help people stay consistent and measure progress. To me the Garmin challenges and point system allows me to make sure I am consistent and that I am pushing myself. The old and wise adage that you can not manage what you don't measure applies here.  Garmin adds true value by allowing me to measure and track what I am doing. I lost 15 kilograms and kept it off. This mean the difference between being in good health and poor health and reduced mobility.   Can the system be improved? Yes but it works as it is now for me.

    • Unless you cheat. There is someone in my waking challenge that has a contact that is at Level 10 (10308 points)! He has over 249 marathons, 31 50 Miles Ultra, 250 Century ride (all as Speedy Century too!), 221 4 hour indoor rides and yet, his stats says the farther he ran was 32.56 KM and the farther he rode was 102.19 KM. Some of his "rides" had a maximum speed of over 150 km/h. Something is fishy here.
