Multiple activities per Badge

Can we have either the option to add, say, a hike to the walking challenge badge, or a separate badge for hiking? For me, when I hike, I tend to do 8+ miles some times. It would be nice to be able to earn credit for walking that distance, rather than having to have to then do a separate 'Walk' a mile afterwards to have that count.

Same with say, Pilates and Yoga. Or a better example Running and Cardio. There was a Cardio badge a while back, that you couldn't earn with runs.

Thanks.

  • I like it this way since that makes me train even more. If you could count one activity to multiple different challenge/badge types there will be less training which is not a positive thing.

There has been hiking challenges so there might come more in the future.

Cardio is an activity type in its own just like Strength, Yoga, Pilates etc. Cardio activities are activities like tabata, group training, dancing, high intensity exercises at the gym and similar. Strength, HIIT and cardio are somewhat overlapping. I log it as the type that is in focus of the workout.

Checkout the Cardio workouts by Garmin to see examples of what is considered to be cardio training: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/find-workout

  • Depends on how you look at it. Having more options means that you expand the cross training possibilities. For me, as someone with limited free time, I tend be more likely to skip the activities that didn't have badges.

Again, me personally, if I wear a watch that is 'rewarding' a certain behavior, then I'll skip the ones that aren't rewarded. By adding additional exercise to 'Type' badges (not say, a run a certain mileage badge. But if you're going to call it Cardio, then running IS cardio), then having multiple options means that I can cross train more effectively rather than only doing the exercises that reward me in the app, especially since I generally only have an hour a day free to train during the week.

The other option is if they're doing Monthly challenges, then have more consistent options. There was no January Yoga badge, but there was one for Dec and Feb.

  • There was no January Yoga badge, but there was one for Dec and Feb.

The yoga "warrrior" badge has been every second month since August 2021. I thought they would do yoga "namaste" badge every other month, but it didn't come in January.

I've been doing all challenges since the start in June 2020 and for me they are pretty consistent. There are a few different challenges that comes and goes on a regular basis and from time to time they add a new one.

The challenges are still pretty new and my feeling is that Garmin is still testing how it should work.
