transfer course from edge 820 to garmin connect

I have created some courses on my Edge 820 using GPX files from a website which I put in the New Files folder in the device

I would now like to view these courses on my computer using Garmin Connect to check I am happy with them

If I open Garmin Connect these do not appear in the list of courses

Garmin connect gives me a message Sync successful - I assume this is just the normal check for updates

How do I get these courses into Connect, or on to my computer, so that I can open and view them there?

Many thanks for any assistance

David

  • How are you importing these courses?

    Should be:

    • Drop or browse to the GPX file you want to import, then click "Get Started"

  • thanks, but I already put the GPX files directly into the Edge, and it created the courses which I now want to view

those courses are in FIT format so cannot be imported as you suggest as it will only accept GPX & TCX formats

I can see following your route I could go back to the GPX files, import them into Connect, create (and view) the routes again, and then transfer them to the Edge in place of the existing routes I've already created - but that seems a lot of unneccesary work if I can just view the files I already created - there are 16 of them

  • GPX files from a website

Suggest going to the source GPX files, then import those. If you have any difficulty, you can zip then insert those files into your post or give us a link to the source web site and the courses you're trying to import into Garmin Connect.

Alternatively, you can zip the fit files you referenced from the courses folder on your Edge, then attach those to your post. There are third-party tools that can convert those to GPX files. I'd be happy to convert those for you so Garmin Connect will accept them as courses.

  • The Edge will never sync the courses to Garmin Connect.

The intended workflow is to import the courses into Garmin Connect and then send them to the Edge from Garmin Connect. You should never have to manually move files to the devices. Since you have done that you will have to do some unneccesary work.

  • OK thank you both.

I'm no expert - the instructions I was following were to import the gpx files into the Edge directly and allow it to create the courses. I've now backtracked and imported the files into Connect and recreated the courses and transferred them to the Edge. Hopefully that will sort it
