Garmin Connect GPX download (with course points embedded) does not show course points when uploaded to device (settings show course points toggle as on)

I have designed routes in Garmin connect to include course points and when I send directly to a Garmin device these course points upload. However I need to share a GPX file with many people for them to then upload to their unique Garmin (and other) devices so this just isn't practical. I need to be able to download a GPX file and share it around by email or whatsapp that includes course points.

However when you download a GPX file from Garmin connect the course points do not appear when uploading this GPX to a garmin device in the usual way of adding to 'new files'.

RidewithGPS does not have this issue and Points of interest always make it over successfully.

Come on Garmin please provide us with an adequate explanation or solution as it is affecting the usage and functionality of sharing GPX lines with the detail required.

If anyone has found a solution to this bug please do let me know. If not then please share if you have the same frustrations so we can put pressure on Garmin to rectify this!

  • I used export for activities and GPX seems to be without points/laps. So probably it's the same with courses.

For activities a workaround is to export FIT and convert it to GPX on your own using other program like GPSBabel. So you would need to test if there is similar way for courses.

But sure, it would be better if export function was complete with points.

  • Exporting to GPX does not support Course Points. We would recommend trying this with the FIT file option to see if you have different results when sharing the file directly.

  • When is Garmin going to look at resolving this issue? Seems very backwards considering other route design providers such as RidewithGPS are able to support this function. Course points are an essential aspect to route navigation. The majority of Garmin devices use GPX files. What is the point of being given the option to create course points in the route design if you then can't download and share this information? Also your suggestion of downloading the file as a FIT file makes no sense. It is no good for my Garmin Fenix Pro 6x watch for running and my Garmin Edge 530 for cycling. I would love Garmin to explain why they have provided the capability to download as a FIT file and not a GPX? Makes no sense at all. Other users please feel free to continue this conversation until Garmin realise this is a serious oversight of functionality!
