Why did garmin rename all my 'walk' activities to 'run' and remove the walk option entirely?

In garmin connect on the activity type dropdown (in the top left corner) activities are listed in 2 levels.

For walking this used to makes sense. It used to be

  • walk
    • leisure walk
    • speed walk

And it got renamed

  • run
    • leisure walk
    • speed walk

Many of my walking acitivites are now re-categorized to 'run'.

Can this behaviour be explained or reverted?

I am using the dutch version of garmin connect.

  • My English version still says Casual and Speed

    If yours changed for some reason, suggest reporting this to Garmin Support for your location.

  • Thanks for your quick reply. That narrows it down to a translation error in the dutch version. I reported the bug to support using their online form. The form required me to provide a serial number for garmin connect, but it stopped complaining once i entered the SN from one of my gps units.

  • It is likely just a translation issue. If I switch language to Nederlands I see "Lopen" as the type for all my walking activities. My running activities is called "Hardlopen".

    When I check the translations with Google Translate I get this:

    Lopen - Walk

    Hardlopen - To run

    According to that it looks ok, but I don't speak Dutch so native speakers might use the words differently.

  • I also noticed this translation issue since about a month.
    First i was thinking i just started a running activity instead of walking activity but then saw the icon was correct.

    To me this is a translation issue.

    Wakling => Wandelen
    Running => Lopen

  • I contacted garmin support team for the product 'garmin connect' to notify them of this. On 16/02 they informed my translation error report is 'an interesting idea' and I should report it to the head office in the USA where they keep track of this sort of feedback....

    Unclear to me why they still have a product support team anyway, but I followed their instruction and guess what? Nothing has happened in over a month. So don't get your hopes up!

    For anyone interested, their literal phrasing was:
