Garmin Instinct: Heart Rate data shows up on Garmin Connect homepage but not in Garmin Connect Reports page. Can anyone help with this?

In the Garmin web app, I can see a chart of my heart rate data on the homepage but it doesn't show up when I go to reports! I'm hoping to export my heart rate data to CSV. I've tried logging out of all of the Garmin apps and re-logging in using my single account and that hasn't worked yet. Can someone help please?

I just bought a Garmin Instinct Solar and I'm getting familiar with Garmin Connect and all of the data it can give you. I bought the watch so that I could do a computer science project with my heart rate data, and I need to be able to export the data. When I get onto the dashboard, it shows the chart of my heart rate but it doesn't show up in reports. No data under "All Activitities" shows up in Reports, I only have data under "Health & Fitness" and I'm not sure why!

  • Are you trying to save all the second-to-second heartrate data from a single activity? Or just the avg and max heartrate from each activity?

I'm not sure which heartrate chart you're referring to on the homepage. If you are looking at a specific activity then you can see a chart of the heartrate data from that activity, but as far as I know you can't export just the heartrate data by itself. You have to export all of the data from that activity (use "Export Original" to save the FIT file), and then you can import that FIT file into another app to access the heartrate data.

The Reports do not show the actual heartrate data from each activity, they only show the avg and max heartrate.

    Hope that helps

  • Hi Kyle, thanks for your reply.

When I bought the watch I assumed there would be a good way to export your heart rate data, like some general measure of your 24/7 heart rate data (a datapoint every minute or something like that).

I'm referring to the line chart that shows your heart rate throughout the day. It has resting heart rate, avg resting, and high heart rate across the bottom of the figure. If you hover over different parts of the line chart, it will tell you your heart rate at different times throughout the day. That's the data I want. It looks like the record at least every 2-6 minutes.

I'm trying out GarminDB on Github to see if that will give me what I'm trying to get, but I wish Garmin would just make it easy to export the heart rate data. They're storing it somewhere if I can hover over the chart on the Garmin Connect page and see what my heart rate was earlier this week.

  • Ah! Sorry about that, I was thinking about an activity tracker or bike computer where you are recording specific activities. Forgot about the all-day trackers (I don't have one of those).

It's possible the data may be stored on the device if you access it directly. I know on the bike computers there are a pile of FIT files stored, not just for individual activities but also things like records, user settings, etc. If you browse the device storage with a PC you may find a file with some useful data that you could examine in another app.

    Hopefully someone else here knows.
