How do you stop activities being removed from the watch after syncing to Garmin connect iOS app?

After having a few activities failing to upload to Connect and then subsequently the files being deleted is it possible to stop Connect deleting the files, or at least give us the option to delete after we have confirmed they actually are in our activity pages?

  • Which watch do you have? There is a limit to how many activities can be stored based on the model.

  • I have the Instinct Solar.  I’m not wanting to store activities indefinitely on the watch just want to have peace of mind that if Garmin sync fails again I can pull the FIT file from the watch to do a manual upload.

  • Got it. I'm not sure why your files are being deleted. I typically do a backup/delete from the \GARMIN\ACTIVITIES folder every month just to be on the safe side. There are 3rd party tools that could potentially recover those deleted files, such as recuva, etc. Then likely they would be corrupt, which would require another 3rd party tool to repair.

  • 17th November: I recorded 4 activities, 3 walks and a bike ride (in Tenerife at the time).  All activities and the details were in the watch history folder.  After syncing the watch later that day only the 3 walks had been transferred to Garmin but the ride data had been deleted during the sync process. No more health data was recorded or wouldnt sync up until the 25th November.  The activities though from the 18 to 25th November did.  I connected watch to PC to check for the missing cycling FIT file and nothing was on the watch.  I did a delete and full install of the phone app which did not resolve the issue so had to delete and reset watch to enable the health data to transfer to Connect.

4th December: watch would connect to Garmin from the app but the sync process stopped responding part way through.  I recorded 2 activities that day, the details again were in the watch history.  I tried again later that day to sync watch and after few failed attempts the process completed.  All data activity and Health data though was deleted from watch and information was not on Connect.  When again checking the watch whilst connected to the PC no FIT files for the lost activities were present.
