Hello. I am the owner of a Garmin Fenix 5 x plus sapphire watch serial number 5MM075352. This watch was stolen from me on November 7, 2021. I have already written a statement to the police.
please tell me if I can remotely block or track them? perhaps there are some other options?

  • Looks like Garmin encourages robbery of Garmin watches. Just happened to me and my wife. They refuse to block or track it. They say they will only provide information to the police. What about the rightful owners?

How exactly do  they encourage the robbery by providing the information to the police?

They cannot block it, or give you the tracking information, because they could easily land in a law suit, for example if someone who already sold the device asked them for it. Of if you used the information to find and beat up the thief. Or if you gave the watch to someone with the goal to track him. Etc, etc. Giving the data to the police is the right and the only legal way to do it.

  • So by your logic all the resources allowing us to track android phones (google) and ios phones (apple) are illegal.
Also stolen phones will promptly be blocked thru their IMEI codes after contacting phone operators. So you believe this is illegal too.

If you sell your used watch to someone, the buyer should ask you for a selling contract and/or the original receipt and/or ask you to remove the watch from your Garmin account so he can add it to his account.

  • A watch cannot be tracked in the same way as a phone, since it does not broadcast any positioning data - except of two LTE models, Garmin watches have no senders, only a GPS receiver, and even that has to be activated by the user. So, first of all they have no chance to localize the device, unless the person attempts to register it under a new account, and uploads some activity including the position.

You can still go to the police, report the theft, and have them promptly contacting Garmin to block the device, and get any information about new usage of the device. I still do not understand why you have such problem with it.

  • The problem is police will take a long time to do this, or maybe they never will, considering there is no official Garmin adress in my country (Brazil), only a reseller. During this time anyone can freely use the watch and register it to their accounts without any block.
