Manual activities (file uploads from Virtual, indoor Cycling) are not considered in Training Status

When I upload my manual activities, with full spectrum of data from turbotrainer, i.e. RGT or other - those do appear properly within activities, yet totally excluded from Training status.

It's not really important, but I guess this is a bug as Training status is totally off suggesting that there's detraining, where's there must be something around maintaining or even improvement (it's winter, hence rather expecting to see maintenance).

Also found that for some reason gxp files are no longer accepted by garmin connect (web)

I guess it's not just for me.

  • That is by design. You must either use a Garmin device for all the data or use one of the supported 3rd party services like Zwift, TrainerRoad, Sufferfest or Tacx: https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2021/06/garmin-training-status-now-includes-zwift-trainerroad-the-sufferfest-and-tacx-app-workouts.html

  • yeah, that sucks. Seems like a filter criteria (hardcoded) on the source of the data.

Zwift is just one platform, there are other ones to be supported: bkool, rgt, rouvy, etc

Otherwise have to record activity in two devices - bit strange "workaround"

  • It is up to each company to talk to Garmin and create the integrations that are needed.

  • It is up to Garmin to reach out to each company. It is an inconvenience to Garmin’s customers.

  • It is up to Garmin to reach out to each company.

No, it is not. Garmin offers their own products (Tacx) as well as several 3rd party services, for the same purpose, working correctly. They have no responsibility over hundreds of 3rd party services with a missing or wrong integration. If you are unsatisfied with the integration of Virtual, complain there, or use a fully supported service with a proper Garmin Connect integration, instead. Or record the activities on your Garmin device to get the Training Status.

  • Who are you? An admin? Or work for Garmin? Or just another customer. I am just going to disregard what you said. Garmin’s customers are Garmin’s responsibility. If I am using mostly Garmin products but using a third party app, they should proactively be reaching out to said app to make sure make sure there products run smoothly and are accurate.  The way you propose is archaic old man thinking. Precisely why Garmin is starting to be challenged more in the marketplace.

  • That sucks!!!  You would think a .fit file is all you need irrespective of the device it was recorded on.  All the required data should be there for the training status calculations to be made. I'm a bit disappointed in Garmin for not allowing this Disappointed.  Back to dual recording activities I suppose. A total PITA.

  • I would have thought a manually uploaded .fit file should be irrelavant to the device used to record the activity. Garmin are getting petty if they dig into the .fit file to determine what 3rd aprty device was ued to make the recording. Disappointed

The Training Load is being calculated on the device, not on Garmin's server, and also not in Garmin Connect. So if the FIT file from your 3rd party app does not include the Training Effect data, it wont's be imported to Garmin Connect. There are 3rd party services who do save the Training Effect to the fit file, and it is then also imported to Garmin Connect, and the Training Status can be updated accordingly.

You can find the list of 3rd party apps supporting the Training Status in the article Why Is My Training Status Not Updating on My Garmin Device? | Garmin Customer Support

Do Cycling Activities Recorded Using a Cycling App Count?

Activities uploaded from the following apps will count towards your Training Status without the need to use a Garmin device:

    • Tacx Training app
    • Zwift
    • ROUVY
    • TrainerRoad

You will still need to meet the requirements mentioned above and you will need to sync your Garmin device after the activity has been uploaded to Garmin Connect for Training Status to update on the Garmin device.

  • I know my .fit file contains all the data needed to calculate "Training Status" as I can see the data in Strava.  I managed to edit the device type in the .fit file and uploaded it to Garmin Connect Web. The activity now appears in the Training Status under "Exercise Load", where previously it was missing.  The "Acute Training Load" line has also changed, so it looks like the Garmin Server may actually calculate the Training Status. Not sure how accurate it is, I'll have to go back to the previous data to confirm, but it's a start.
