How can I add and select a new activity? Moreover, how can I use the activities defined in the "activity and app" section of the menu?

By reading several post about "adding new activity", I have understood it is not possible to add a new activity that is not already defined in the Garmin activity list. This is not good for me, but it has been understood.

My usual activity is tennis, but I can not add and select it in my Garmin instant.

However it is not clear to me another point: in the menu, in the "activity and app" it is possible to define a new activity. It is not clear to me how I can use the activities defined in this section, both the new defined by me and the ones already defined by Garmin, such as "track me", "navigator", "area calculation", etc.

How can I select those activities?

Thank you in advance

  • Each watch comes with a number of activity profiles (Run, Bike, Strength, Cardio, Yoga etc.) and each are of a certain activity type (Running, Cycling, Strength, Cardio, Yoga etc.). You can't add any new activity types even if they exist in Garmin Connect.

In many watches you can create new activity profiles, but they will always be based on one of the already existing acitivity types on the watch and will be logged as that type in Garmin Connect.

How to create custom activities (activity profiles) in Garmin Instinct: https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/instinct/EN-US/GUID-08725337-124E-42EA-A147-F4985BC124C0.html

To make a custom activity to be logged as for example Tennis you will have to edit the activity in Garmin Connect after you have stopped the activity and synced and change the type to Tennis.

Some watches can get new activity types in a software update, but that is mostly for the top tier watches like the Fenix 6 series, Forerunner 945, 745, Enduro and maybe some more (Venu 2?). Tennis is actually coming to those in the next update.
