Editing .TCX file to show only ride time, not total time?

When indoor riding today, I rode for 1 hour, and when I uploaded the ride to GC it did show 1 hour.

But after I manually exported it to Strava, my activity only showed the total time. Which was 1 hour and 15 minutes (i.e. including the rest stops).

Is there any software that I could edit the .TCX before I export to Strava, that would make it only show ride time and not total time?

Any tutorials would be appreciated too.

Thank you.

  • Maybe. Fit File Repair Tool will do just about anything. Could you zip then attach the file from the ride here?

In Garmin Connect you should see

    • Time = moving time, without paused time
    • Elapsed time = total time from start to finish, including paused time.

In Strava you should see, Moving time and elapsed time, which will be the same number? Seems odd for an indoor activity where a race or segment would not be impacted.

  • Thank you for your help. I'll try that site out.

At the Garmin Connect website, I only see "Time" and not ""Elapsed Time" being displayed.

And on Strava, I do see both Moving and Elapsed Time. And yes they're the same figure.

I recorded the activity with a Edge 830 on rollers, not Zwift etc.

  • I only see "Time" and not ""Elapsed Time" being displayed.

    Scroll down to "stats"

I tried this out on a test indoor ride and was able to fix it using Fit File Repair Tool

I'm not a cyclist and only have a 920XT which has in indoor cycling profile. Did a 3 minute test activity (while sitting at my desk Grin) that included 2 x 30 second pauses, as in the screenshot above.

Shows in strava as 3 minutes regardless of pauses

Ran it through FFRT using the "Eliminate Break Times" function

That removed those pauses and converted the activity to 2 minutes and was able to import into strava only showing the 2 minutes without pauses

  • Awesome, that fixed it in Strava.

Thanks again for your help Grinning
