Edge heart rate data does get included in daily heart rate graph

I have a Vivoactive 4s which I wear most of the time, but took it off for a bike ride which I recorded with my Edge 800.

There is a gap in my heart rate (and other health stats) graphs while I was on the bike ride. I don't understand why it hasn't used the heart rate data from the Edge to provide the data for that period. I have the TrueUp setting on.

  • It will only use the heart rate from your activity tracker which is the Vivoactive. Edge bike computers are not activity trackers.

  • I see. I just seems weird that Connect can completely ignore a heart rate that is recorded in the activity even thought it was a different device.

The activity is there in Connect with the max heart rate of 166 but Connect also says my max heart rate for the day was 112.

  • It even incudes the activity in the graph, but won't include the data! Arg

  • Very good test that shows exactly that only the heart rate from the activity tracker is used.

Just wear your activity tracker during your bike ride. If you also start an activity on the activity tracker and connects to the heart rate strap you should get even better heart rate data in graph. To not log double activities you discard that activity after the ride.

Sorry, a bike computer designed to track your activity on the bike isn’t an activity tracker?

While I agree Garmin doesn’t view it as an “activity tracker” it absolutely is one and should be treated as such in connect.

  • An activity tracker here (in the Garmin context) is a device that tracks your all day heart rate, steps and other health values. Yes, an Edge tracks your activities but it isn't an activity tracker since you only use it while logging an activity and it doesn't have the features that an activity tracker have.

It is the name that makes it a bit confusing. Let us call it Fitness Tracking or Health Tracking. Then it might be easier to understand the difference.

  • Exactly as wrote. There is just one exception - if you use the Garmin HRM-Pro strap with your Edge, and add it as a standalone device to your Garmin Connect account, then it will log your all-day heart rate even if you do not wear your watch while riding.
