Elevation Gain

Why is it that the elevation gain which is not a small difference in Garmin is always higher than what it is in Strava?

  • Strava is likely using the topographic data to calculate the elevation.

If you enable elevation corrections in Garmin Connect you will get a lower value which might be more like the value in Strava. The barometric altimeter in your device will count more ups and downs than you will get with topographic data.

When I compare the elevation gain in Garmin Connect with Strava I see the exact same values. I'm using Forerunner 945 and Edge 1030.
