Getting training status/load/effect and recovery feedback for activities other than running in cycling

Is this possible? I am interested in buying a Garmin but I don't run, main activities are walking hiking and strength training.

The polar interface gives training and recovery effect feedback on other activities from what I can tell. Does Garmin do the same?

I emailed the support team and got a response but it didn't answer my question at all

  • Yes. You get it for all activity types.

  • May I ask you how? I have this same question, and I do multiple activities except running and biking and I cannot get training effect either. My Fenix 6 says I must post a run or bike. Perhaps there's something I don't know about? I'm still learning my watch/app.

  • Training status is mostly affected by VO2 max and training load. You will only get VO2 max values from running, biking and walking.

All other activities gives you training effect and training load. At least all I've tried the common ones + pilates, yoga, hiking, resort skiing, pool swimming, open water swimming, other and probably some more that I've missed.

I'm not sure about recovery feedback after each activity, but the watch calculates the recovery continuously and are affected by what you do.

  • Good to know. I still have some research into balancing my aerobic high and low and anaerobic and I have to read more about vo2 Max as this is a new concept for me, but I've never had training effect load after walks either. That's one activity setting I use the most.
