I've been asking Garmin for at least TEN YEARS for two things in Garmin Connect and / or the devices. I see that folks are STILL asking. Garmin seems to have a long history of poor user interface and not listening to its customers.
1) Hiking as an activity. No, please don't comment saying it is the same as walking or the steps are the same or whatever. The point is to capture the activity separately from pedestrian walking. In my case, to capture trail hikes with a heavy pack. Why Garmin cannot do this is mind blowing. Unless it has been done recently and I didn't get the memo. For crying out loud, look at all the other slicing and dicing Garmin does of other activities that are only marginally different. Hiking (for instance, on rough trails up a mountain with a pack) is akin to Mountain biking vs. Road biking. It uses different muscles, stresses joints differently and has a different impact on the body.
1 b) Others have noted that it would be good to have a quick and easy way to add carried weight to the hiking feature when Garmin finally adds it.
2) Customize Activity List on Home Page: Enable Garmin Connect users to customize the activity types shown on their page. For instance, why must a road biker (or whatever) scroll through ten variants of similar activities that they Never participate in to select road biking? Why must a runner, road biker, [hiker] scroll down through literally pages of activities they never select? It is nutty, frankly. Literally, I have been asking for this one for over ten years.
3) These issues are symptomatic of Garmin's long standing behavior - provide the best hardware, but (apparently) the worst user interface and don't respond to customer input. I say this as an early adaptor to Garmin field and fitness devices, owning many variants for many different types of activities. I lover Garmin hardware, I usually really like the quality of the customer service folks (when you can get them on the phone) but I have always felt the the user interface is sub standard on every Garmin product I own.The competition knows this and is competing with better UI's. That is probably the only way to get Garmin's attention. So, no, I'm not a hater, I am a frustrated Garmin hardware lover.
