Multisport FIT file from Fenix 6 unable to upload or sync

I did a multi-brick session on the turbo + run outdoors yesterday using an outdoor duathlon profile.

My watch seems to be able to view all of the details fine, but the activity won't sync to Garmin Connect.

I've done a few activities since then, and they're also not syncing, I'm guessing because they sync in order and it aborts after the first failure?

I tried downloading the FIT file from the watch and uploading it to Garmin Connect, but it was rejected with an error (I tried looking at the detail of the upload response. but it just said "unexpected error".

I've tried passing the file through various FIT file repair tools and many of them can parse it fine, but they tend to either not handle multisport well, or produce files that are still rejected by Garmin.

Is there a good way to find out what's wrong with my file? I'm a software developer so in theory I can use some fit file encode/decode tools on it, or I can use the Fit to CSV tool - but I have no idea how to figure out what's causing Garmin to reject the file.

I've included a link to the file below, in case that helps.

  • This will work - 2021-04-30-18-16-36-fixed.fit. There were 5 cycling parts, 5 running parts, and 9 transitions.

I used Fit File Repair Tool to repair it. Seems to be one of the few apps that can handle multi-sport activities.

Yes, you'll definitively want to  first verify all is synced (probably need to manually upload the un-synced activities), then remove all of the fit files in the \GARMIN\ACTIVITY folder on the device’s file system using these directions: Removing Recorded Activities on a Garmin Fitness Device If you're using a Mac computer, empty the trash folder before you unplug your device from the computer. This will also help minimize the chances of corrupt files in the future.

  • That's awesome! I tried downloading a trial of the fit file repair tool, but I got a bunch of "out of bounds" errors while loading the file and then Garmin rejected the exported file as an unsupported format afterwards.

Did you do anything special with the file in there, or just hit import then export?

  • There were numerous "Subscript out of range" errors. Possibly thousands. 15 minutes of fast clicking and sheer willpower got me through it. Grinning Since there have been a few other fit files with this issue, I've downloaded an "AutoClicker" program which automates a click so I can go about my day. The software automatically fixed everything else.  Also, I don't think you would be able to export a repaired file without a paid version of the software.
