corrupted fit file on Forerunner 645 M

Hi there,

I recently purchased a Forerunner 645 Music and already have had a couple of fit file become corrupted.

Are other users experiencing similar issues with the Forerunner 645M? I only very very infrequently had the issue with my previous TomTom, but this is now twice within 7 days..

The fit file is attached below. Any help would be much appreciated!!

Many thanks.

I don't have a 645M, but I do fix a lot of fit files on this forum. I can tell you that the Forerunner 645 or 645M don't normally have this problem.

Some tips to help minimize the occurrence of corrupt fit files:

    • Keep the number of files in the \GARMIN\ACTIVITY folder on the device’s file system to a minimum using these directions: Removing Recorded Activities on a Garmin Fitness Device If you delete the files in your activity folder with a Mac computer, then empty the trash folder before you unplug your device from the computer.
    • Try to avoid excessive button presses during your activity.
    • Regularly check for firmware updates using Garmin Express
    • If issues with corrupt files persist, contact Garmin Support.

Thanks again seilogramp!! This worked perfectly!

This is also great advice. There was definitely a lot of stopping and button pressing on this run, but my last corrupted activity involved no button pressing.

I did get an update on Garmin Express today though, after the run, so hopefully that will help. I'll be sure to follow your advice on the whole.

    Again, thank you so much!

    Dear Garmin community,

Another run and another corrupted file. Unfortunately, this is happening too frequently; at least once a week.

Any help would be much appreciated, but I think I may have to return my 645M.

File attached below. Many thanks in advance!

  • Ran it through FIT File Tools section remover without any adjustments.

I think I may have to return my 645M.

If deleting all of the files in the \GARMIN\ACTIVITY folder did not help, suggest a factory reset and contacting Garmin directly.

    Thank you !

There were two other activities since my last corrupted file 3 days ago, which I manually deleted today (post-run). These two had synced with Garmin Connect automatically, but today's wouldn't sync or manually upload. Should I be making sure that each activity is deleted before recording another?

You shouldn't have to do that. Only if you've had issues.

Thanks. Garmin have discontinued the 645M but I'll return it to the local store, when it reopens in a few weeks.

Will try deleting the activity folder and factor reset in the meantime. Thanks again!
