Incorrect Information on Activities when Flying

Hi,

I have noticed that when I fly a plane and use my Garmin Fenix 5 WiFi (Software: 20.10.0.0) to record the flight some information shown in Garmin Connect (iOS App or Web) are clearly incorrect. I don't get this issue when I run, cycle, swim or fly a helicopter. I only noticed this issue when using Fly mode with an aeroplane. Maybe the speed passes some threshold?

1. The max speed is smaller than the average speed. That's mathematically impossible. Plus looking at the chart the top speed is completely different.

2. When looking at the speed chart I see that the speed is incorrect several times. And I don't think it's because the watch lost GPS or anything like that because I can show these extreme cases where I'm flying straight and level (so great signal all the time at 5000ft) and the average speed seems correct but the chart is completely incorrect.

Again, none of this happens with I fly a helicopter.

And I can notice these 2 issues above since 2019 when I still had Software: 11.0.0.0. So seems to be an issue on Garmin Connect itself and not on Fenix 5 or Fly mode.

Please let me know if you need the activity numbers (examples) or any other detail.

Thanks

  • It is a known issue with garmin fitness devices. Speeds above certain threshold are not supported.

Just a note... this is a user forum, so we can confirm a bug, or often we can help with a workaround, but we cannot fix any bugs, since we are ordinary users just like you. Garmin employees frequent this forum only exceptionally, and rarely act upon individual posts. If you want to make aware Garmin about the problems, you have to contact the Customer Support at https://support.garmin.com. Use the phone or chat options for a quicker handling.

  • Hi and , thanks for the super quick reply!

Sorry for my ignorance. I looked everywhere in Garmin/Google on how to report a bug and the only option seemed to be the forum. Plus I just reported a bug in the GoPro forum and the Admin replied and reported the bug to the team. So I had high expectation of Garmin...

    Cheers

Well, that's why they have the support site for this purpose. The forums are more or less a community matter for mutual help, and the daily volume of messages here is too high to be closely monitored by the staff. Besides that, it saves them a lot of time and cost, because a big part of the problems here can be resolved by the community without any intervention of Garmin. This multi layer method is a rather common way of providing support.
