Trail run calories

I trail run and use the run setting on  Forerunner45. I do not believe the calorie count, I have almost double the calories hiking the same trail on the hike setting as running it..wondering about setting it to hike instead or run for trails? Any thoughts? I ran 3 miles of very tough hilly trails today in 55 mins and burned 350 calories?

  • The choice of the activity type is unimportant. What matters, is only the heart rate and the HR Variability during the activity - only that is used for the Calories calculation (unless you have a watch without a HRM). So, if you think the Calories are too low, verify the fit of the wrist band, and check the HR graph, to see whether it shows credible data. If not, and you cannot gt the wrist HRM working reliably, consider using a chest strap HRM.

  • Thanks for that, makes sense to me..
